How do you play Basketball Imposter?
Everyone gets the same basketball player on their own phone except one of you, the imposter, who only sees the position (guard, forward or center) and the flag.
- Send the link. One of you starts a game and shares the link or the 4-letter code. You need 3 to 8 players — free for up to 4.
- Everyone gets the same basketball player — except the imposter, who has to bluff from the position and the flag.
- Say one word each about the player. Out loud in the same room, or typed if you play online.
- Vote out the bluffer. Caught imposters get one last chance: guess the player and steal a point.
An imposter who escapes scores 2 points; when the imposter is caught, everyone who voted right scores 1. Five rounds, a new player every round, about 5–10 minutes.
Can you play Basketball Imposter online?
Yes — play in the same room or miles apart, each on your own phone, and the host picks which before the game starts.
| Together (same room) | Apart (online) | |
|---|---|---|
| Your word | Said out loud, in turn | Typed in the game |
| The vote | The host starts it when everyone has spoken | Everyone sees the clues together, then votes |
| Works best | On the sofa, at practice, at a party | Over a video call or straight from the group chat |
What else can you play in the same room?
Keep the same group and switch game: every sport also has a live auction, Guess the player and Pick your favorite.
- A live draft. Everyone gets 100M and bids for the same players — the stronger five wins. Basketball draft game
- Another sport. The same game with footballers or ice hockey players.
- Ideas for tonight. Six games for your group chat, with and without us. Football games to play with friends
Then put a price on them: the basketball auction
Same group, same basketball players, more at stake. Basketball draft game
- Create a game and send the link. Drop the link in the group chat before tip-off. Everyone joins on their own phone, so it works at the watch party and from different cities.
- Bid on one basketball player at a time. Point guards, wings and centers go under the hammer one by one, legends from as far back as 1957 next to players from this season. A big man can go for 30M if two of you need a center.
- Choose how your five line up. The game is played quarter by quarter, basket by basket. A close one goes to overtime, and the stronger five always wins it.
More basketball games for the same group
- The live auction. Everyone gets 100M and bids for the same basketball players. Build the stronger starting five and win.
- Guess the player. Six clues about a mystery basketball player, one at a time. Name them first — a wrong guess hands everyone else the point.
- This or That. Two basketball players, same position, same era. One of you picks in secret, the rest guess which.
Why basketball fans keep playing Imposter
- A basketball tip. Got a center as the imposter? Words like "paint", "boards" or "tall" are safe. A point guard needs a bolder bluff.
- Bluffing is the skill. The imposter has to sound like a basketball player expert with nothing but a position and a flag.
- Built for the same room. Say your word out loud on the sofa, or type it when you play apart.
- 3 to 8 players. Free for up to 4, Host Pass for bigger groups.
- One last chance. A caught imposter can still steal a point by naming the player.
- No ads. Ever. Just the word, the vote and the accusations.
