How do you play Guess the Football Player?
Everyone sees the same clues about a mystery football player, one at a time, and the first to pick the right name out of three scores a point. It is not a once-a-day puzzle: you play round after round, live, and today's stars and all-time legends are mixed.
- Send the link. One of you starts a game and shares the link or the 4-letter code. Play with up to 4 friends for free, or play alone.
- Watch the clues drop. A new clue appears every 7 seconds: three facts, then the country, the position and the season.
- Guess when you dare. Pick one of three names. Right, and you score a point. Wrong, and everyone else scores a point and the round ends.
- First to 10 wins. Playing alone? You get 10 rounds, and the game counts how many you got.
The earlier you guess, the more you risk. Wait for the last clue, and someone faster may take the point first.
What are the clues?
Six clues per player, from the hardest to the easiest, all about the player's best season.

Current stars and legends are mixed, and the two wrong names are usually from the same position and the same era, so you can't guess from the position alone.

How do you get better at Guess the Football Player?
The football players run from legends of 1942 to today's stars, and so knowing this season's results only gets you halfway.
- Yards tell you the position. Passing yards mean a quarterback, rushing yards a running back, receiving yards a receiver or tight end. Sacks and interceptions point to the defense.
- Draft picks are a big hint. A late-round pick who became a star is a famous story. A clue like that often names the player before the flag does.
- Mind the era. The legends go back decades. A season record from long ago rules out everyone playing today.
What does a round look like?
A round could start like this: "Holds career records for catches, receiving yards and touchdown catches.". Then "As a boy he caught bricks on scaffolds for his bricklayer father.", then "Set a season record with 1,848 receiving yards in 1995.". Then the flag 🇺🇸 and "Wide receiver". The answer: Jerry Rice.

- Create a game and send the link. Put the link in the group chat before kickoff. Everyone joins on their own phone, on the couch or at the watch party.
- Bid on one football player at a time. Quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, tight ends, linemen, linebackers, defensive backs and kickers go under the hammer one by one, legends from 1942 next to today's stars. Two of you chasing the same quarterback is where the budget goes.
- Set your starting 12. The game is four quarters: touchdowns, extra points, field goals and the odd safety. Tied after four? It goes to overtime, and the stronger team usually wins.
